FAQ's

When did 3 Stars Jewish Cinema begin screening films in North Texas?

In July of 2001

Are you a film festival?

No, we are a film series, which means we screen films all year. The hallmark of our series is the post-film discussion that takes place after screenings and often features a guest speaker, actor or director, and is moderated by our artistic director, Bart Weiss. We are the only professionally curated Jewish film series in North Texas! In the past few years, we’ve hosted “Word-of-Mouth” sneak previews which have officially opened in the Dallas market shortly after our members see it.

What types of movies do you screen? And are they only 3-star movies as your name implies?

Shabbat ends on Saturday night when there are three stars in the sky. That’s how 3 STARS JEWISH CINEMA got it’s name. So, no, we don’t show three star movies. We show contemporary films, classics, academy award-winners, shorts and documentaries.

How often and where do you show your films?

We screen at least one film a month, often more! Our films are shown primarily at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station, although we sometimes have screenings at the Angelika in Plano, the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, Studio Movie Grill, the Alamo Draft House, or The Magnolia. Also, every year we host a special Christmas Eve screening. Mark your calendar for December 24th!

How much does it cost to see a film?

It’s always FREE with a membership. Without a membership, screenings are usually $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Costs for special events may be slightly higher. Many screenings are available to members only.
